Portugal is a country full of surprises and when you're walking this is even more evident, there is the beauty of the landscape, the diverse flora whatever time of year you traverse it, the unexpected Roman ruin or abandoned village and of course the fact that most of the year the weather is good for walking.
Little wonder then that so many people like to walk and explore but the main barrier is the fact that there are so few accurate maps and guides that we have to rely on our own explorations. As so many people have shown interest and offered to host a walk we have agreed to post these walks on the Portugal Friends site.
The success of the walks relies on people being prepared to host a walk in their area and so spread the responsibility so if you have a route in your area then please contact us so we can post it on the site.
Generally walks won't cost you unless we have to arrange some form of transportation or incur a fee of some sort. Further we look for a local restaurant to the walk for a meal, which you will be asked to pay for but is not obligatory to attend. Usually a meal is offered after the walk to restore flagging spirits and put back those calories!

Dornes, River Zêzere - Saturday 11 September 2010 This walk was planned for some time but the recent fires have meant that we have had to change the location. It will still be by the River Zêzere but this time near the old Templar village of Dornes. We have also been fortunate enough that Valdemar, a local resident and walking guide in the area has agreed to guide the walk for us. Your Guide will be : Valdemar Garcias - find out more about Valdemar at FOR MORE DETAILS AND DIRECTIONS link here |
